Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: How much time prior to my flight should I allow for checking in at the airport?

A:Normally 90 minutes at least for a domestic flight, 2-3 hours prior for an international flight. You should plan on longer time if you are traveling with children or have mobility issues.

Q: Can I travel with my pet?

A: Depending on the size of your pet , the season of the year, and the airline, you may be able to take your pet with you.  The other questions to which you will need answers are:  Will your pet need to be quarantined in the location to which you are going?   Will your pet need to be quarantined when you get back home?  Will the pet be able to fly in the passenger compartment or in cargo?  What type of carrier is allowed and what the fees will be?  Most importantly will be… if the airline does allow the pet, is there available space on the same flight as yours?  Ask your travel agent to get answers to these questions for you.

Q: Do I need a passport to travel within the United States?

A: As long as you are a US citizen with a government issued picture ID, you do not need to have a passport to travel within the United States.

Q: Can my child travel alone to his grandmother’s?

A: It depends on the airline and the itinerary. The general rule is if your child is under 5 they cannot ever travel alone.  For children between 5 and 12 years old travelling alone, you must purchase the “Unaccompanied Minor Service.”  If the child is older than 12 years old he/she may travel unaccompanied.  The fee for “Unaccompanied Minor Service” usually ranges between $50 and $150 per child.

A child between 5 and 7 can travel as long as the flight is either non-stop or direct (makes no change of plane) and is not the last flight of the day.  If the child is between 7 and 12 years old the child may travel on a connecting flight but still cannot travel on the last flight of the day.

Q: Can I bring my own food and drink on the plane?

A: You may bring food from home or food bought at the airport on the plane.  Liquid items are only allowed on the plane if they were purchased at the airport after you pass through the security check point.  Food and drink are now also available for purchase on most flights, but can be pretty pricey.
